Hi Guys,

I'm a very new user to HyperMesh and I'm looking to do a very basic 2D topology optimization on a rectangular structure with one force on it. I want to create a PSHELL geometry and use a 4mm x 4mm mesh size. So far i used geometry>create nodes and then geometry>create lines to get the outline of the geometry, but I haven't been able to figure out how i should go about making the elements. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

After creating the lines create surfaces. Then go to AutoMesh panel in 2D>>Automesh and give the mesh size and create the elements.

As you are a new user i would suggest you to go through our free eBooks  https://altairuniversity.com/free-ebooks-2/

    Thankyou

Thank you for your help, I seem to have the mesh working now, there was just one thing I am unsure of. I need to make the 2D geometry with PSHELL with a thickness of 3mm. Should I have done this before I made the mesh? Currently my mesh has no thickness I believe.

Would I do this by creating a property collector with a PSHELL card image and then settting the thickness there?

When you have defined PSHELL card, you do 'assign' by right clicking on component:

Choose the PSHELL card and 'Apply':

    Hello @pleace,

Yes you need to create a property collector and assign the thickness to that property.

Then you have to assign this property to the component.

You also need to create and assign a material to the component.

    Thank you
