CLEARANCE option in INTERFACES

I have a model with C shaped surface to surface contact as suggested below (red slave and blue master) with a gap of 1mm similar as shown below

 

 

 

This is the setting for which my model converged and analysis was successful. 

 

But upon closer observation, I see that the gap between the contacts is not being closed but stresses are transferred.

 

After understanding a bit about 'CLEARANCE' ,

 

1) I gave clearance value more than the gap b/w the contact surfaces and the contact is not being established.

 

2) I kept the clearance field at DEFAULT and still no contact is being established.

 

ONLY when i give Clearance = 0.0 there is stresses transferred tough there is gap b/w the contact surfaces. Could you explain why this is and if the result obtained with CLEARENCE=0.0 correct?

Hi,

I don't think to give a clearance value more than gap is a good idea.

 

Please provide a clearance value of say 0.7 and check if that helps.
