Free size optimization results: discrepancy of the results

Hello everyone!

 

I am optimizing a composite laminate, starting with free size optimization.

The results looked quite promising: the initial value (iteration 0) was 47 kg, whereas the last iteration returned a mass of less than 9 kg (showing in the .OUT file). The simulation also generates a xxx_sizing.fem file, which can be used in the next step, namely size optimization. However, when I checked the weight of the laminate in the xxx_sizing.fem file using mass calc, it was more than 13 kg! 

From my point of view this doesn't make any sense. Aren't the values supposed to be the same (and yes, I checked which lamine I optimize and which laminate I check the weight of)? Am I missing something fundamental here?

    Hi John,

     

    Long ago we had a similar query and suggested to play with MINDENS and since then the user did not get back.

     

    Try to change the MINDENS in opticontrol and check if you are able to see results comparable.
