Hi everyone, I need some help modeling two components in a tensile test. The dovetail shown is basically in contact with the other piece and is subjected to a pulling force. How would I create this into an assembly and properly model the stresses? Thank you for your help.

    Hi Dallen,

    Which solver are you using?.

If you are solving with RADIOSS, try defining Type 2 interface between these, that will kinematically connects a set of slave nodes to a master surface.

    Hi Dallen,

Once the models are imported you can use the translate option (Shift+F4) to position the objects.

You can try with N2-N1 option to translate ,so that the vector between the N1 and N2 nodes determines both the magnitude and the direction. Once the models are positioned properly you can either equivalence the nodes so that connectivity will be maintained between these components.

If these are solid components you can also try with the boolean option in solid edit panel where using union option user can combine multiple solids into single solids.

What if I need a frictional contact? These pieces are not glued, but just held in place, like a wood joint. Appreciate all the help George.

    Hi Dallen,

I think you can try with Type 7 interface between these parts,. Please go through the Help menu on Type 7 interface which explains more about  this.
