Hi experts,

I'm facing a terible issue in HW CFD 2021.

This issue is related to "Surface Mornitor" in the solution tab.

Below is my example, this one is a manifold from our tutorial:

image

You can see there is a yellow surface inside the pipe.

I created this in order to test on the "surface monitor" function & it is assigned with "default wall" type.

However, the massflux on this "surface output" is Zero (0)

>> as my understanding, this "surface output" is calculating the sum of the mass flux on both 2 sides of the interfaces, while it should only to take into account for 1 side.

Below is my plot from log file, the mass flux on the 3rd outlet is exist, but on the interface is Zero

The model is attached. Please help me to find the solution for this!

Thank you very much!

You are correct - in the current version both 'sides' of the internal surface are written to the input file for that surface output - and the integration is essentially zero.  In the next release (2021.1 - hopefully within the next month or so) I understand there will be a 'direction' selector so you can choose which 'side' of an internal surface will be written for that surface output set.

As a workaround for now you'll need to hand-edit the input file initially written, removing one of the surface sets from the definition for that particular SURFACE_OUTPUT command.  (File > Export > Solver Deck to write the .inp and MESH.DIR without launching the solver.)  Unfortunately, it seems you cannot then run using that edited .inp file from the GUI.  You'll need to launch the solver from the AcuSolve command prompt.  But after solving, you can still load the results into HWCFD.

    hi acupro,

    thank you for your response.

i have already fixed it by editing the inp file.

i create a post to report to you guys about the issue.

    please fix it soon!

This functionality has been added in the 2021.1 release version - as I have just now tested it.  When an 'inner' surface is selected and arrow is displayed.  The arrow points in the direction of the parent volume.  With a click on the arrow, it reverses direction to point to the other volume.

Thus, in order for the reported mass-flux (mass flow rate) to be positive, the arrow should point to the 'upstream' direction.
