How to continue analysis when the light goes?

Hello everybody,

Many times when solver takes a long run time to solve given analysis problem, it becomes a big concern when we loose electricity connection in between.  How to continue the analysis when the power resumes?

    Hi,

    It is possible to restart the run.

     

    Procedure to Restart

     

    First, while submitting the files for restart, please create a new engine file (may be copy - paste original file) and edit the extension from *_0001.rad to *_0002.rad

     

    Next, in the newly created Engine file, you have to edit the number in /RUN, ex. /RUN/Drop_test/1/ will become /RUN/Drop_test/2/

     

    Finally, while submitting the run call new Engine file(*_0002.rad) which you have created use same number of cores what you have used for the first run.

    Hi George,

    From my test, it seems that the second step you mentioned may be not necessary. That is to say, we can copy the engine file and modify the file extension from _0001.rad to _0002.rad, and then submitte the new engine file _0002.rad. I don't know if this doing correct or not.

    Hi Roy,

    When we run the second engine file the second run will be starting from the previous run's final time. So that the user can continue his run from previous terminated time.
