Hello,

can anyone help me to find out what is causing the segmentation violation erorr in HyperWorks 14.0? I'm running topology optimization with nonlinear geometry load case. I'm comparing 4 models with different mesh sizes and otherwise exactly the same settings, geometry, material etc. All but one complete the optimization without a problem. The one fails with segmentation error.

I've noticed that RADIOSS also crashes randomly when I try to specify for it to use all 4 kernels on my computer.

I've attached my fem and out file.

    Hi,

I tried running the same in HW 14.0.230 version and the file ran without any issues. Can you please install this build and try running?, You can download the same from https://connect.altair.com/

The .out file is attached for your reference.

PS: Always recommend you to use the latest HyperWorks version, that is HyperWorks 2017 which has a lot of new features. Please go through http://forum.altairhyperworks.com/index.php?/topic/20221- hyperworks-2017- a-platform-for-innovation/  for a short demo.

    Hey George.

Yeah, it seems that issues with RADIOSS happen randomly. I've had problems with one model if I specified a different number of kernels to be used. If I used 4 the calculation crashed and if I specified 3 it ran without issues.

I can't install any software, since I'm using the computer at the university and I don't have admin rights. I'll ask if the newest version can be installed. Anyhow I would expect these kind of random issues from an open source software, not commercial industry standard software package.

Any other tips that you can give me on how to handle Segmentation Violation Errors if I can't get the newest version installed?

    Thanks for your help!

    Luka

    Hi Luka,

Can you share details of OS and machine configuration?

Also, can you check if you are able to through the error if you use 5 parallel kernels?

    Hey Prakash,

the system configuration is as follows:

    - Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit

    - Intel Core i5-4690 @ 3.5 GHz (4 cores)

    - 16GB Ram

    - 480 GB SSD

or do you need more detailed specs?

I can't specify to use 5 kernels, since I have only 4 cores available.
