Dear Altair Support,
Hello,
I am currently using Altair EDEM coupled with SimLab/AcuSolve to simulate the simultaneous settling of two particles with different shapes in the same computational domain, and I have encountered an issue.
In the same domain, I generated two particles: an ellipsoidal particle with an aspect ratio of AR=1.3 and a spherical particle. Their volumes are very similar and can be regarded as approximately equivalent in volume.
For the drag coefficient calculation, I used the Holzer–Sommerfeld model and assigned the corresponding aspect ratios according to the particle volumes. Under normal physical expectations, the settling velocity of the ellipsoidal particle should be lower than that of the spherical particle. However, the simulation results show the opposite: the ellipsoidal particle settles faster than the spherical particle.
I believe this result is physically unreasonable, and I would like to understand what may be causing this behavior. Could you please advise whether this issue may be related to the Holzer–Sommerfeld model implementation, the aspect-ratio/volume mapping, particle identification, or any other settings in the EDEM–AcuSolve coupling?
I look forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Yinyu
