SimLab Python script runs without error but doesn't update model parameters

I'm setting up a link between HyperStudy and SimLab to run a DOE. The goal is to vary the positions of components in the SimLab model and see how the responses change. The workflow runs, and HyperStudy writes parameters.xml correctly for each evaluation. However, the parameters in the SimLab simulation don't change, so every run returns the same responses. How can I make SimLab pick up the parameters from parameters.xml for each run?
