Simcenter EDEM licensing issues.

Good day,

We recently signed a reseller agreement for Simcenter EDEM, but we are having problems with licensing and are receiving the following errors when trying to open the software:

ERROR   : License Problem : Altair License Manager: License error

Feature(s): GlobalZoneEU, HyperWorks, HWEDEMGUI

Error Code: 15

Error Description:

[NETWORK] 6200@localhost - (Err: 15) Unable to connect to license server

Altair Managed Licensing: License error

Feature: EDEMGUI

Error Code: -40

Error Description:

[LicID 172835] AU Enterprise Suite - (Err: -40) While checking out feature "GlobalZoneEU": Requested feature name was not found in licenses

Hi,

It looks like EDEM is trying to connect to 'localhost' but you should have an Altair one account and/or local license server or file to connect to.

If you have managed licenses you can set this up via the "Access managed Altair licensing from the Altair License Utility" section of this help page

You may also want to set ALM_HHWU environemnt variable to T which forces only managed licenses, not local.

However if you have a on-premise server or license file you can set the ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH variable to point towards this file (don't set the ALM_HHWU variable if you have this).  It would typically be 6200@server_name or path to the license file.

There is also an EDEM flag you can start EDEM with if connecting to local server, if you start EDEM with the --server flag this connects to the specified server. For example

C:\Program Files\Altair\2026.1\EDEM\bin\edem.exe --server server_name
