Downloaded HyperWorks Desktop 2022.3 but unable to run simulations due to missing Solvers-Optistruct

Hello Altair Support Team,

I was able to find and successfully download the "Altair HyperWorks Desktop 2022.3" package from the Altair One Marketplace.

However, when I try to run finite element analyses or submit simulation jobs, the application states that the solvers are missing or cannot be found. This occurs because the standalone "HyperWorks Solvers 2022.3" application suite is completely hidden from my dashboard view, which currently only displays version 2024 and newer software.

Could you please provide a direct download link to the matching Altair HyperWorks Solvers 2022.3 installer package?

Hi @shravan_1229,

Since this is a tutorial specifically for OptiStruct and not for MotionSolve, there is not an exactly equivalent Tutorial. If you are conducting Multibody Simulations you will use MotionView/MotionSolve.

The tutorial I did mention above shows you how to get started with a piston model and create a Displacement Output in Step 6. You can simply change the type from Displacement to Force like below:

In general, measuring Forces at a Joint or on a Body can easily be achieved with an Output. Simply go to Analyze » Outputs, and follow what is shown in the mini-guide bar:

In your case, all you have to do is change the Type to Force and the Entity-type to Joint. Then simply click the Joint you want to measure during the simulation:

You can also measure a Force using the same workflow, except you will change the Type and Entity-Type to Force and picking the defined Force in your model.

Hi Adam,

To be clear on what I'm actually trying to do: my task is force analysis on a reciprocating (twin-cylinder) compressor mechanism — identifying and calculating both the external forces acting on the compressor (mounting and foundation reactions, drive/coupling loads, suction and discharge pipe reactions, transmitted vibration and shaking forces into the frame and base) and the internal forces generated during operation (gas pressure force on the piston, reciprocating and rotating inertia forces, connecting-rod axial load, piston side thrust, crankpin and bearing reactions, torque fluctuation at the crankshaft). The end goal is to model the slider-crank mechanism, extract these force outputs, and cross-check them against manual analytical calculations.

So what I need from a tutorial isn't just building a slider-crank and viewing its motion — I need one that shows how to extract force and reaction outputs from the model: joint reaction forces, bearing loads, applied gas/pressure loading on the piston, and the resultant forces transmitted to ground/frame.

The tutorials I'm working from are:

* OS-T: 1900 — Dynamic Analysis of a Three-body Model
* OS-T: 1910 — Dynamic Analysis of a Slider Crank with Flexible Connecting Rod

These are OptiStruct tutorials rather than MotionView ones, which is why I'm on 2022.3 — the material I have is written against that interface.

Three questions:

* Do either of the piston-cylinder tutorials you linked go as far as force and joint-reaction extraction, or do they stop at kinematics (displacement, velocity, acceleration)?
* Do they cover the same ground as OS-T 1900/1910, or are they a different workflow altogether?
* Is there a 2026 version of OS-T 1900/1910 somewhere else — updated for the current interface, or under a different tutorial series? When I looked through the 2026 OptiStruct help I couldn't find a Multibody Dynamics Analysis section under the HyperMesh Tutorials, and the Classic HyperMesh Tutorials page points back to the 2024 help. I may have missed something, so please correct me if these do exist in the current release.

If something in 2026.1 covers what I need, I'll move to the current release and won't need the legacy solver package.

The first two Tutorials are technically a slider-crank mechanism (piston and cylinder), so the learning objectives are likely similar:

Can you share what Tutorial you are specifically looking for? Is the a Tutorial number associated with it?
