Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Modeling, Radioss, Twill weave type

May I ask how to model (twill weave type) carbon fiber in Hypermesh Radioss, with material MAT/25-COMPSH and property type 17 (STACK).

And also facing a problem of material reference orientation. In Optistuct can use (System) to adjust the material reference orientation. But in Radioss how can I do that. Sometimes is correct because Drape is automatic appear for each the first ply, but sometimes not.

I am using Hypermesh Radioss 2026.

Hello.

Just to confirm, are you reviewing the elemental system in the attached image?

I had a look at your model and the material system review looks fine, it is following the defined skew as expected. The elemental system does show arrows pointing towards each other, as in your image, but that's not a concern. The elemental system is built based on the nodal numbering, and what drives the constitutive behavior is the material/ply system.

Also, on the property type, PROP/TYPE17 is fine, but we tend to recommend newer options such as PROP/TYPE51 + /TYPE19. They are essentially the same, but 51 + 19 allow users to define different material models within the laminate, and more than one integration point through the thickness of the ply.

Regarding the Twill weave, the "Ply Type" field in HM doesn't actually affect Radioss models, so one just needs to make sure the material properties are defined correctly and in the proper orientation.
