I am trying to understand Hypermeshes capability to work with CAD programs.
SInce there can be some non trivial geometry chages in an FEA process, sometimes updating the original CAD is easier than hacking some surfaces in Hypermesh.
Since there are patchmesing and representation capabilitys to auto regenreate midsurface geometry and mesh, i was wondering on how to reload a modified CAD file.
I tested creating a geometry in Inspire
- this geometry is a simple volume with some features and 1 variable
I then loaded this into Hypermesh (via File→Import→Geometry Model)
- this is where i had to change settings (Point to "Inspire Installation" path, allow "live parameter update")
What is possible by this point:
- Use CAD Update (seeiingly useless if PDM Metadata doesnt change [I am using Inspire without PDM])
- Changing the CAD-parameter and watch the Geometry get updated (seemilgy some type of reload that preserves already known volumeIDs and "intelligently" adds only modified parts) with the changed features
- Modifiing the CAD Model in Inspire
- then Save Model in Inspire
- trigger parameter Update inside Hypermesh (cahnging the variable)
- watch the model beeing loaded in with changes before from step 3a and the parameter change
What does not seem possible:
- Modifiing the Inspire Model inside Inspire and reloading the model (bot triggered by Hypermesh parameter update)
- CAD Update does not seem to work
- File→ Import→Geometry Model just creates a new geometry and doesnt "intelligently" add only modified parts
- triggereing a reload that also correctly reads in new assembly structure (if new assembly structure was created by modifiing the Inspire CAD)
Does anyone know of ways to trigger the manual "intelligent" reload of CAD ?
Is there a way to reload with the Inspire assembly structure beeing preserved / loaded in correclty?
P.S.: i did not have sucsess with trying representations and i am still on Hypermesh 2026 (not 2026.1)
