In HM 2026 i am using the LS-Dyna Profile (not sure if that has anything to do with my issue).
I understand that within the part browser now upon creating a representation, let's say the "common" rep from CAD rep that the new common rep will have a material assignment that is driven by the "PDM material" PDM Data field for the part.
I have found that if i assign a material in my session to the CAD component then "sync metadata" then the "PDM material" field updates correctly to my assigned material name and MID. This should mean that this material simply is assigned to the new "common" rep upon creation.
However, when i create the common rep the material field of the component is assigned correctly to the material name and MID that i had for the CAD rep however this is not the same material! HM has created a new generic material using the same name and MID and has overwritten my session material, destroying my material definition. The new generic material is in the wrong units and has totally the wrong material info in it.
So after much messing about trying to understand what is going on I've come to the conclusion that it is impossible to keep the correct material assignment, it always creates a new material from the PDM Material name?! The only way to not create a new material is to leave that field blank but that means the new rep has no material and i have to assign again and resave the rep again!?
Why doe it doe this, is this a bug? How can i turn off this auto material creation action?
