Impact velocity of particle–wall collision in EDEM?

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding particle–wall interactions in EDEM.
When a particle collides with a wall, is it possible to directly obtain or calculate the impact velocity (i.e., the particle velocity at the moment of contact with the wall) within EDEM?

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You can get the contact information, but crutially this is only avialbe at the save data time point. So it gives you the instantaneous impact velocity at that point in time not the peak or initial.

You can also use the collision metrics, We have an in-built energy tracking model - https://help.altair.com/edem/topics/creator_tree_physics/collisional_energy_tracking_model_r.htm however this doesn't give velocity directly. We have an API version of this where you can track velocity:
