Linear Buckling Analysis for an Isolated Region of a Model

Hi,

If I want to run a linear buckling analysis for a model I have, but I am only interested in the buckling modes or a particular component, i.e. an Upper Cover in a wingbox model. Is the only way to isolate the component of interest via a 'Super Element' approach? Or are there other approaches, i.e. analysis sets etc, that can be used?

You can exclude elements from buckling through the EXLUDE entry

Hi Solon,

Thank you for this response, even though the elements are excluded from the geometric stiffness matrix do they still contribute to providing the correct boundary conditions to the component being assessed?

I guess the key question I am asking is: are the eigenvalues for the component of interest the same (excluding mode number) whether you run the linear buckling analysis with the full model or with the Exclude command used to 'hide' the other components/elements?

EXCLUDE doesn’t just hide parts and the buckling results are usually different.
