ESTIMATION OF MATERIAL INTERACTION PARAMETERS FOR EDEM

I am trying to model clay particle grinding in a planetary mill using EDEM. My milling jar and balls are made of zirconia, and the particles to be grinded are clay (mixture of muscovite and kaolinite). Are there suggested values on EDEM for the material interaction parameters, i.e. coefficient of restitution, coefficient of static friction, and coefficient of rolling friction?.. I do not currently have the set-up, or the apparatus needed for the getting these values experimentally in my lab, and from what I can gather, the process seems to be complicated. I was wondering if there are suggested values from EDEM for these material interaction parameters?

Hi Tolu,

Can you please give little more details such as what type of base model are you using and is you're objective is reducing the particle size? also please suggest are using bonding model or tavera's breakage model

I’m currently using the Hertz–Mindlin (no slip) contact law with rolling friction enabled (no cohesion/JKR at this stage). Jar + balls are zirconia, and the powder is a clay mix.

My primary objective is particle size reduction (grinding) and to relate the milling conditions to collision energy / stress-mode distribution, and the resulting PSD evolution.
