PSIM Thermal Modelling MOSFET(EON) new device half-bridge setup

Hello,

I'm currently working on doing Thermal loss analysis. The part I'm working with is a half-bridge setup in EconoDUAL packaging. I was able to successfully add a new device and input all the parameters from the datasheet. However, I noticed some other models have it defined that it's a half-bridge setup under one physical thermal package. I've only been able to make this new MOSFET model as a discrete type. I can't seem to find any setting that would allow me to change the package type for my model. Here is the model I've made (top), versus when I select a Cree WAS300M12BM2 (bottom), it automatically changes the model to a half-bridge setup in the same case package.

This is a good question!

In older versions, PSIM used the .dev format for thermal models, and there were cases with half-bridge devices where the user had the option to choose between "symmetrical" or "individual" operation. Taking your CREE device as an example:

These types of dual models were abandoned in the latest version as they were creating unnecessary confusion. The .dev format has also been replaced with the .xml format, and there is now the capability to translate .xml thermal models from other tools, like PLECS. Please reach out to Support if you are interested in that.

In v2026, there are no half-bridge models. The user can use the 2-level Bridge Leg block and assign a thermal model → symmetrical operation is assumed automatically, or they can place two individual thermal MOSFET blocks if they want "individual" operation.

Important note: there is NO difference in how you create the thermal model in the PSIM PCD Editor depending on single or half bridge setup. The vendor generally provides data "per-switch" anyway. Even in the old models, if you open the definition of both files, you will see that they are identical. This proves that there is no difference in how devices are being modeled.

The only difference was the 'Operation Mode,' which has now been abandoned to avoid confusion. Users can now simply place separate blocks in the schematic if they don’t want to assume 'symmetrical' operation.

Please keep in mind that PSIM adjusts the voltage drop in the device based on temperature, so current-sharing issues will be revealed by simulation if you choose to place individual switches. You can also skip this voltage update if you prefer, using the corresponding option.
