Hello guys,
I want to discuss structural non-linear analysis in Optistruct and better ways for it to converge. In my experience, 99% of non-convergence occur due to element distortion. Now, I calculate welded structures and I am usually interested in a certain area of the design, but I also include the environment which are structural components necessary to define the boundary conditions of the model and transfer the loads correctly. Now, I am not interested in the stresses or deformations there. But some elements in these components fail due to distortion and I don't get results at the end.
Naturally there must be a way to come around this, I need the general stiffness of the environment, but I don't mind in my case if some of these elements distort. So, any suggestion on how to circumvent this problem?
