What analysis should i be running to see if a bolt will withstand a pothole. Please help me out .

Description: I have an assembly with 10 bolts in place. I am trying to see if i can reduce a bolt or two .
I want to run an analysis to see if a certain bolt location will withstand a pothole scenario. I have no idea if such an analysis is possible and what kind of inputs and softwares are needed to pull this off .

Hi @Prithvi_Raj,

In order to evaluate your bolt configuration, you will first need to gather information for this specific load case - the pothole.

If you have any historical data regarding your vehicle and similar evaluations, you may already have an approximated load case you can apply, such as a 3G load case. You can apply this load case in HyperMesh to evaluate the stresses generated in your system and determine if any components will fail under this load case and expected number of repetitions, possibly using HyperLife.

If you don't have the load case information, you can generate the loads by building a multibody model using MotionView and evaluating it using MotionSolve to predict the loading in the area from the pothole event, or even a duty cycle event, like the following:

Firstly, Thank you for replying on this issue .
The insight really helps me .
I do not have a full vehicle model. I only have a sub assembly model which is a bumper .

I did apply a 5G load on the mounting brackets of the bumper. On which mode should i be looking at the stresses to determine if the bolt will hold or not . What are the calculations i should be looking at and How is the stress plot going to tell me if the bolt is going to loosen up or not .
