Backwards compatibility issues (Solved)

Description: Hello to the whole Altair Team.

I'm writing to you because my student team is using HyperMesh 2024.1 and soon new members will download the software with a student license. They can choose between different versions at the moment of the download. I've read that the you can't open a more recent file version on an older software version (can you do the opposite though?). My question is what would be the best way to ensure the least possibile trouble in the workflow? I'm considering telling them to download the older 2024.1 , so that we all have the same software version and can work on the same files straight from the beginning. Is this a good idea? Will this version be supported in the next few years or is it going to become obsolete soon?

Hi @MarcoMare,

Unless there is an entity that exists in 2025.1 but does not exit in 2024.1, then the forwards/backwards compatibility will be preserved.

For example, I opened the Silverado model from the following tutorial, saved it in 2025.1, then opened it completely in 2024.1 without any errors.

If you have a specific model you would like me to test for forward/backwards compatibility, please feel free to attach it here and I can test it for you.

Older versions will not become obsolete, but will obviously not benefit from the many years of improvements since it was released. It is always recommended to use the most recent release of HyperMesh to ensure the smoothest possible workflow.
