Hello fellow Altair users and developers,
I'm facing some challenges in exporting kinematic drapes of plies within my carbon-composite part.
My plies are made of square elements, so they need to be smoothed before being sent to manufacturing. To smooth out their contours, I'm using "Ply Geometry Smoothing", and in the dialog box I'm making sure that I check the option "Update ply element sets".
However, when I go into Drape → Kinematic Drape, and I select the now smooth ply, it says "Shape of selected ply must be defined as set of elements".
Indeed the ply has now 0 sets and 0 elements associated to it, and it just shows up as "16 Lines" in the Shape column.
So the problem is that I can't export the drape of the smooth ply, because the software recognizes there's no sets of elements associated to it anymore. If I don't use the Ply Smoothing Feature I can instead export it with no problems.
Do you have any suggestions to make this work? Am I doing anything wrong, or is there any other way round this to obtain a smooth, draped ply, that is ready to be laminated into the mould?
I'm attaching two screenshots to make it more clear to you.
I thank you very much for your time and attention, and I hope to hear from you soon
Marco
