Feko error 46197

Hello

I'm working on EMC research related to electric vehicles. We have a model in feko, that I unfortunately can't share due to an NDA.
We're essentially simulating S-parameters between a wire inside the car body and an external antenna.
The model is large in size (approximately 5x5x2.5m simulation box), but at relatively low frequencies (30MHz-400MHz) it makes the model electrically small-ish.
Because of this, we've been using the ACA solver (as the model has a lot of elements, full MoM would take too long).

Our simulation consistently crashes at approximately 50% due to error 46197, with the error message
ERROR 46197: Internal Feko error. Please notify the Feko support team and provide the error number, preferably together with the Feko input and output files.

According to the feko warning notes, this error occurs because an array has not been allocated. What does this mean in practise? Is there something to be done to prevent this from happenning?

Hi @Oskari,

The .out file you have shared does not include any errors. You probably have shared another file. Can you please share the one where the error/crash is reported?

That's the thing, that definetly is the .out file from the run that crashed (this has happened twice now and in both cases the .out file just says finished).

This is odd, but there is no .out file where Feko reports the error. The error message appears in runfeko, but if you open postfeko, or the .out file directly, it's as if the run just finished.

And unless multiple .out files are made from a single file and saved somewhere outside of the project files, there is no .out file where the error occurs.

I see, that is indeed odd. Do you have by any chance a screenshot of the runfeko window when the error occurs? What about the results, do they seem fine?

I will try to share this with our development team along with the additional information you can share to see.

Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot. There was just the error message, and then the usual runfeko stopped due to the error.
The results seem fine, but as the simulation stops early, the frequency resolution of the simulation is poor.

You are Welcome ! So it seems not all the frequency range is computed. Are you using Continuos Range for the frequency setting correct? Not the Linearly Spaced Discrete Points.

Hi @Oskari ,

This seems to be a bad memory allocation on the machine during part of the ACA computations. We will need an example to investigate this further. Please try to create a sharable model where you experience this, if you are not able to share the original model.

Thank you for looking into this.
I will try to create a shareable model with the error. However, with the error occurring 36 hours into a simulation, this might prove to be difficult.

If the error has to do with memory allocation, it might be relevant information, that the computer has two different kinds of memory (different speeds and different sizes of RAM, essentially mixed DIMM). This could contribute to the issue.

I will share the memory information you gave with our dev, as it might help understand better the setup you have.

We did manage to reproduce the same error (with the same model) with a different computer with different memory. The error did occur at a different percentage of the simulation completion (48% completed vs. 50% completed)
