Hi everyone,
I'm working on a drop test simulation in Altair SimLab using the Quick Drop Test Setup. I noticed that when I define the drop test, the impact surface is automatically created just below the bottom face of the geometry.
However, in the same setup, I also enter a drop height value (e.g., 5 feet), which the software uses to calculate the initial velocity for the impact.
My question is: If the impact surface is created right below the part, but the drop height is 5 feet — is this setup physically correct?
Shouldn't the impact surface be placed 5 feet below the part if the software is using the height to calculate velocity?
Or does SimLab assume the part has already fallen and simply applies the velocity at impact?
What happens when I place the impact surface on actual height?
Thanks & Regards,
