Hello everyone,
I am working with Altair HyperMesh 2025.1 - OptiStruct (Student ediction), and I need some advice on handling a mesh without the original CAD geometry.
Context:
I have been provided with a mesh-only model (no CAD) and I need to run a modal analysis. The mesh is too detailed for the Student version limitations, so I tried to reduce the size:
- For PCOMP components: I coarsened the mesh.
- For PSOLID components: I used morphing tools successfully on most parts.
However, I have one large PSOLID component where I am stuck. I cannot change the mesh with morphing or any other method I tried. The element size is too fine for the Student Edition, but apart from that, the mesh is perfect and well-shaped.
What I tried:
- Morphing panel for coarsening (does not work on this specific solid).
- Creating FE geometry from mesh and then deleting/remeshing → did not work.
- I event tried to Edit 3D elements (Density) After creatin the FE geometry mesh but just after modification the number of element (or their size, I tried both) return to original numer
- Tried various meshing tools but without the original CAD it seems very limited.
My question:
Is there any workaround to reduce the mesh size or remesh a single PSOLID component when no CAD geometry is available?
Or is there any way to extract simplified geometry from the mesh that would allow remeshing?
I would like to avoid remeshing the entire model as most of it is already optimized.
Any suggestions are welcome – especially if you know a way to handle this type of mesh simplification without CAD in the Student version environment.
Thank you!
