If i select two surfaces for which i want to create a midsurface, the midsurface is getting created, but the orginal surface is getting deleted. It is the same even if the hide input geometry and clear existing sufaces options are unchecked.

It looks like a visual issue only when you are in the midsurface tool.
When you exit it should be fine
You should verify the solid is still intact by seeing it in the Model browser
