Import STL geometry file to HyperWorks CFD

Hi. I wanted to import an STL geometry file (exported from EDEM) to HyperWorks CFD, and got an error message - unsupported file extension! I'm using Version 2022.3 for both EDEM and HyperWorks CFD.

Some previous posts said that the student version doesn't support STL import. I don't think I have a student version. My university has an annual subscription. Please see the screenshot below (when I go to File -> Help -> Software Version). How can I tell if it's a student version or not?

Eventually I want to get the geometry from EDEM to HyperWorks CFD. Can you please give me some advice on how to do this?

Are you working on a personal computer - maybe not connected to the university license? If you like, you could attach the STL here that you're trying to import.

You may also want to ask your professor (or whoever manages the main Altair license) to submit a support ticket on your behalf - to make sure you are connecting properly to the license server, if it indeed supposed to be more than the typical student license.

Which university do you attend? If you have the environment variable ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH set - what is its value?

I do have the environment variable ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH set. Please see the screenshot below. The license file is stored at the server for the School of Engineering (at Rutgers University).

It seems I have a proper connection to the license server. I was also told that one of the previous students was able to import the STL file. It’s strange I can’t import it now.

I will really appreciate any suggestions.

One alternative could be import the .STL file into HyperMesh (for structures) and export that as ParaSolid or STEP. Then import that exported file into HMCFD

Do not try to open the .hm file from HyperMesh in HyperMeshCFD.
