S-FOUNDATION v2024 - Variable inertia pile

Is it possible to model a pile with reduced diameter at tip socketed into bedrock, say a 3 m diameter pile to bedrock with 2.7 m diameter rock socket. I tried to change the section using the member spreadsheet but the section cannot be edited, and there is no way to combine the two sections in the soil profile window. Is there a way to do this with the script editor ?

Hello JiCi, thank you for your question.
Modelling a pile with different cross sections is currently not possible as you have described it.
However, it is possible to define a non-tapered pile first and then export to S-FRAME to change the section size as desired, but this will not allow for the design checks.
Another option within S-FOUNDATION would be to model the soil profile as a single layer, and use a spring with equivalent properties of the pile stiffness to represent the soil resistance of the non-uniform section shape pile.
It is also possible to use multi-layer soil, and adjust the soil properties in the relevant layers to accommodate the required stiffness, but this may require some calibration. You can also specify the pile tip to be fully fixed, vertically fixed, fixed in translation, etc.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any additional questions, let us know. We are always glad to assist.
