¿Does the mesh matter in wear EDEM simulation?

I am trying to simulate an erosion chamber machine, this device include a water flow that I simulated with other software and I exported the resulting fields. In this case, I want to get erosion results from the combined analysis CFD-DEM, and I need enough accuracy for the erosion in the sample (flat disc). The main question here is, ¿Does the mesh of the disc matter? because I need accuracy, but I don't know if a complete volume mesh is required or if I can refine the surface mesh and let a rough volume mesh.

    Hi Pablo,

the only criteria to be followed for wear analysis is the element size is slightly larger than the particle diameter.

For example, the particle diameter is 50mm, the element size for the geometry which wear is analyzed should be captured with at least 55mm.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Hi Prasad,

In that case, is the element size that you said referred to the surface elements, or do I need a volume refinement too?

    Thank you.

    Hi pablo,

In EDEM you need to import only surface mesh, solid mesh is of no use.

    Thanks,
