Coupled inductor magnetizing current

Howdy PSIM users

I am using 3-winding coupled inductors in my model. There are current flags for the winding current which can be plotted, however there is no option to plot the magnetizing current.
I need to plot magnetizing current to look at the current ripple, and verify if my inductor design is correct.
Would appreciate any suggestions.

    Hi,

Are you trying to separate magnetizing current and winding current?

    Thank you,

Yes I am trying to separate them for plotting the current waveforms of winding and magnetizing currents.

    Dear User,

If you consider the following equivalent circuit for the coupled inductors:

Did you try to sum the currents measured with the current flags to calculate the magnetizing current [KCL at Lm branch]? I2 and I3 must be multiplied by their corresponding turns ratios. Additionally, depending on how the inductors are connected, you should carefully consider the current directions to determine whether to use a positive or negative sign when adding them.

    Alternative:
To separate the magnetizing current, you could create a controlled source that replicates the primary voltage. Then set the L2 and L3 part with zero load (I2=0 and I3=0). This open-secondary test ensures that I1 = Im.

    BR,

    Nikos
