Hello,

I am using Educational license with 50 HWU. Recently I got new (stronger) computer, which I would like to use especially for performing calculations. How should I set the license server in order to have ability to use Altair products on both computers? I have read the manual but somehow I cannot get things working.

Currently I have local installation on my old computer.

Thanks for help,

Matej

I have no idea about 'Edu' license. But if it's 'Nodelock' or something similar, you can not setup a license server with this kind of license.

    Hi Matej,

Do you have a server/network license?

if yes, you can use the license from another machine. All you have to do is to install Altair license Manager from the below link on machine1 and create an environment variable on machine2 which points to machine1.

    http://www.altairhyperworks.com/HWProductDownload.aspx

Please find the attached images about Altair license server.

    Thank you both for answer!

Well, how do I find out if I have server/network license? Sorry for such a beginner's question image/emoticons/default_smile.png' alt=':)' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' width='20' height='20'> I guess it should be written in the license file, but I can not figure it out where.

Prakash, I can not see or download the attached files (I don't have permission). Could you please change this?

    Regards,

    Matej

    @matej: Following this page :

    http://www.altairuniversity.com/2014/10/07/hyperworks-13-0-student-edition-order-now/

    I see :

    7. Install the Student Edition and place the license file (named altair_lic.dat) in the HyperWorks sub-directory “/security/…”

    and :

Rahul Ponginan: Also note that you will need a new license file for each computer you wish to use the software in, the license is locked for a particular computer.

So I think that Edu license is of type of 'Nodelock'. Theorically, it's impossible to setup a network license server with this license.

Edu license (which is not free) that I own right now, does not have limitations as the license for the student edition has (number of nodes, etc.). Therefore, I would simply like to spread my 50 HWU between two computers.

Also, my current license is not in the '/security/...' sub-directory, but in the '/Altair/licensing12.0/...' and the system variable ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH is set up as '6200@my_computer_name' to point the license location.

However, I agree with you Q.NGUEN-DAI, that the major question is if my license is suitable for setting up a network license server.

Currently, if you work with ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH set to '6200@....' so you have already a license server on your computer. In this case, try to setup Hyperworks on another PC with the same network (for example 192.168.1.10 for your 1st PC and 192.168.1.11 for your second). On the 2nd PC, set the variable ALTAIR_LICENSE_PATH to 6200@<the_1st_PC> or 6200@192.168.1.10. Run Hypermesh! Tell us if it works ?

If your 1st PC runs under Windows, check also Firewall settings to allow the 2nd to connect to server.

    It works!

It is necessary to open port 6200 in the firewall.

Thank you Q.NGUYEN-DAI for the help!
