Hello,

I have installed hyperworks 13.0 and several other packages into my university registered laptop.

I started using them today while connected to the internet through the campus wifi. When i try to open hyperworks from my home's internet connection it says

cant connect to server etc. I guess the license is connected with the university obv but Is there any way to work at home when i am not connected to the university's network?

    Hi ntz

could you please paste the complete error you get when you opne HyperMesh?

also, Please check your computer’s Ethernet address, by using the almutil -hostid application from the Start > Altair > Tools > Admin tools Menu

The listed Host ID should be used to generate the license file.

You can also find it by running ipconfig/all in command window and check for physical address under Ethernet adapter local area connection:

Alternatively run getmac in command window to find out available Ethernet addresses

(Note: if you are using WiFi, please switch off it and run ipconfig/all again)

If you need any assistance with selecting the right Ethernet ID, you can share the screenshot of output from ipconfig/all , Getmac and Alumtil -hostid.

    ntz,

when you are using a license server, (i.e. when you have environment variables to connect to the server) You cannot run it out of the university network, the licenses will be served to your computer only when you are connected to the network.

If you can connect to the university network from home using VPN, that is one way to access HyperWorks from home. (Virtual private network) most universities have this provision, talk to your university`s IT department about it, I am sure they will tell you about it.

another alternative is for you to borrow licenses, this requires you run a certain command when connected to the university network, this will mean that those number of units will not be available for anyone else in the university, so lets say your university has 500 HyperWorks units, and you borrow 50 units so you can run HyperMesh and Optistruct, then there will be 450 units available for everyone else in the university, this should be generally acceptable unless someone else in your university is running a lot of solver runs,

I suggest VPN as the best option for you,
