Change TIE to other connection

Hi!

I have problem with TIE connection. I imported and converted model from Abaqus with TIE connections to Optistruct. My model is ready to solve, but I discovered that TIE connection need huge memory space (Core IN: 350GB, Core OUT 800GB :blink:/emoticons/default_blink.png' title='' /> , without TIE Core IN 40GB). Has anyone any idea how to replace TIE connection to other? I thing the best element for 'TIE' should be RBE2.

Ps. My TIE connection contain  'contact surfaces' and 'groups' (Card image: TIE).

Ps2. I know that the simplest way is to create 'spotweld' but how to use previously created 'contact surfaces'?

    Hi @timonq

Never came across such problem. I will try with a sample model to check this and will keep you updated.

If you are using RBE2s then you can delete tie contact.

I tried to change tie to rbe2 but still I need 1TB memory for scratch (core OUT) or 0,5TB RAM for core IN :(/emoticons/default_sad.png' srcset='/emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x' title=':(' width='20' />

When I calculated this model using Abaqus solver I need much less memory.

Only solution I found is to change method from EIGRL to EIGRA (need only 13GB RAM)

    Hi @timonq

Can you share more details about type of analysis, number of modes requested (if it is a freq response or modal analysis), number of loadsteps, how big is the model?

    Hi,

Modal analysis: 5-350Hz (Abaqus solver found 4 resonance modes).

    Number of nodes: 5 000 000

Elements order: HEXA and QUAD first, TETRA (most elements) and TRIA second

Now only one step: modal (in abaqus I set 4 loadsteps: modal and frequency response for all axis)
