.exe version reports - Java could not be launched but .bat works but does not save any preferences

When I start RapidMiner through the .exe command I get the Java error but when I use the .bat it loads but does not save any settings (have to login, extensions attempt to update and program repots it "cannot write history file"). I manually deleted all the extensions and have Java version 8 build 171 and windows 10, 16 gigs of memory.

    Never mind. Tried to uninstall and that failed so I manually removed the program and the data under c:/User/<user>/.rapidminer and then re-installed. It is working now.
