Abaqus or Hypermesh - what is the benefit ?

Hello Altair Community, 

I am using Hypermesh with Abaqus solver. I understand Hypermesh is for meshing. 

what is the benefit of setting up problem (boundaries, contact surfaces etc)  in Hypermesh rather than in Abaqus ?

I am just learning Abaqus ( it seem to have more tutorials and better to work with that Hypermesh)

 

Why not use Abaqus to apply contacts, B.C's and solve ?

    It's up to you what to use, or what you feel more comfortable with. Many users create the mesh in HM and export to Abaqus, and many others do it all in HM, from meshing to setup.

    But it is basically a matter of preference.

     

    Abaqus has some limitations on the meshing side, but probably it has some easy options for setup.

    From my point of view, when it comes to simples modelling Abaqus CAE does the job.

    When you need more advanced setup or more complex studies, people tend to move to HM. But again, it depends more on how well you use one or the other tool.

    Thank you. Not sure if this should be an individual thread, but 

    I am trying to recreate the boundary conditions/contacts and loads using the HM tree and also the Abaqus .inp file. 

    Inspecting the HM tree, I see contact surfaces.  In my Ansys workbench days, I could click the tree and pretty much reengineer the study.  However when clicking to get more info on contact surface in HM I get table 2.

    Hi Nguyen, 

    I was using Ansys Workbench as an example. Workbench tree is easy to recreate what was done previously. Simply by going through the tree. Yon can sort out what contacts were used and the various settings. 

     

    Whereas Hypermesh , with Abaqus solver, is difficult to recreate a similar study from the tree. 

     

    I will abandon Hypermesh until I learn Abaqus better.

    you can look after your local Altair representative support, and ask them to share the HM traning material focused on Abaqus.

    I believe it would make it more clear for you.
