management of connections in file based repositories

Hi,
it would be a great improvement for the file based repository if each connection is stored in an individual file, instead of all connections being contained in a single connection file. Further, it would be cool if these connection files would be contained in the root of the repository instead of the users local application directory.
This would allow to use e.g. version control on these files and therefore supporting the professional development of a project without having the need of a server installation.
