Critical error with MoM solver (altair::feko::statespace::StateGraph::checkIfMustTryAgain)

Hello,

I am using the Student FEKO version for my radar research. I am running into a critical error at random times during my standard solve. I am trying to sample the near field around a cube as a plane wave impinges on it. I am also sweeping across frequencies from 2.5MHz to 300MHz. I am running on a machine with Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Standard with AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO and 128GB of RAM. I am monitoring the RAM usage during the solve and it nears reaches close to capacity.

The strange thing about the error is that sometimes I am lucky and I do not encounter it during the solve, but other times it stops the whole solve at the start or midway through the execution. I have attached a picture of the error and my .cfx file that I am using. The error is related to "altair::feko::statespace::StateGraph::checkIfMustTryAgain"

I appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Luke

    Hi Luke

As a workaround, until you get your hands on an EDU version that contains the fix for the problem where the runfeko dialog can cause CADFEKO to crash in this way, you can try running your simulation from the Feko Terminal.

Open a Feko terminal from the Feko Launcher, or from within CADFEKO (select Feko Terminal from the Home or Solve/Run ribbon tab) and use the runfeko command to run you model:

    runfeko range_profile_validation.cfx

    Kind regards

    Hello Luke,

Are you able to update the Student version of Feko to 2024.0.1? That may help with the random crashes you are experiencing with your model.

I am running your model on 2023.1 but have not yet had a similar crash as of now.

    Respectfully,
    Evan Urban

    Hi Evan,

I have looked online on Altair One and it looks like only Feko 2023.1 is available for download. Maybe this is because I have a student account? Do you have a link to the 2024.0.1 version that I could use?

I noticed that when I run Feko without the parallel option, I do not experience any crashes, but it is of course very slow (my machine has many cores that I would like to use). I will keep you posted.

    Thanks,

    Luke

It would appear that this fix worked! I did not encounter the error from the terminal.

    Thanks!
