GPU preference to run EDEM
Hello all,
I was trying to install the trial license for EDEM in my university computer.
When I try opening the software seems top open and crash, so I checked the logfile and it says the license seems to be working well.
So we can rule out the fact that there could be issues with the license.
I have come to suspect that the hardware is not up to the mark so I'd like to know if anybody here faced a similar issue.
I will list my hardware configuration below for your reference:
1. GPU:
Nvidia Quadro P5000: 16Gb
2. Processor:
Intel Xeon 30 cores ~2.6Ghz
3. RAM:
10Gb
Please let me know if this is enough to run simulations on EDEM.
I followed the below article as a reference.
https://community.altair.com/community/en/what-are-the-system-requirements-for-running-edem?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0117125&sys_kb_id=bd0f84b897c1b150e3b0361e6253afea&spa=1
To check the compute capability of my GPU I used this link from NVIDIA.
https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus
Please refer to the below image as a reference along with the managed license log file.
1. Can anyone please let me know if this hardware does the job to run simulations?
2. Did anyone face any difficulty with such a hardware setup, similar to mine?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Kiran

Hi Kiran,
Just noting that we are following up with this on support. If anybody else has similar issues a few of the common things to try are:- Ensure Windows is up to date
- Check GPU drivers are up to date
- Check if EDEM runs via command line (confirms solver/licensing working OK)
- IF there are multiple graphics cards on the system you can specify which one to use via https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000090168/graphics.html
