How does EDEM solve for particles and fluid flow in ANSYS Fluent coupled simulations

Hi,

I was performing coupled Ansys Fluent-EDEM tutorial number 3 where the aim is to study heat transfer of particles in a fluidised bed. I was planning on using my own geometry for this case.

To design my own mesh and run a coupled simulation I have a few questions.
1. In Ansys Fluent the NS equations are solved for each fluid volume, so if I have an hollow cylinder as the mesh I think there would be problems in the solution, so what approach should I be taking when I design a mesh for a coupled simulation.
2. Where can I read about EDEM's solver logic for DEM.

In short do I need to have a solid or a hollow mesh to run a coupled solution for fluidised bed of different dimension. I hope my question is clear, thanks in advance

Thanks.

    Hi Kiran,

We have some e-learning on EDEM-Fluent which you can access here:

You shouldn't have to take any special measures for designing mesh for coupled simulation, with Fluent-EDEM the main consideration however is the fluent mesh cell volume should be equal to or larger than the particle volume to help with convergence.  This mesh size limit is resolved in the EDEM-AcuSolve coupling with a smoothing method.
