Thickness of cast part in Low pressure die casting?
Hi expert,
I have some questions:
- I have a cast part that has a thickness of wall=0.57 mm. I ran it but it was still completed and takes a lot of time. I see that we should use HPDC, Investment for thickness <0.025 inches; LPDC, Gravity Casting for thickness> 0.125 inches. Whether I can use LPDC for this part or not?
- Am I forced to use minimum layers=3 for this part?
Best Regards

Hello Pham,
For your
Q1 ) As suggested in the training slide. It is better to use Investment or High-Pressure Die casting as your wall thickness is 0.022 inches <0.025 inches. However, apart from the guideline you can use a different method as required. This can become an exceptional case based on the other three parameters mentioned in the training material. (Material, Cost, surface finish). Another factor that plays a crucial role in design.
Q2) You are not bounded to use a minimum of 3 layers of mesh to perform simulation and obtain results. But it is recommended as a minimum criterion to obtain results with higher accuracy.
Hope these answers help.
