rockfall on buried pipe

Hey everyone,

I am trying to simulate the response of steel buried pipe subjected to a simple rockfall impact using EDEM. Would that be possible to analyse the stress upon pipe within EDEM? I would be very pleased of any guidance about how I should approach.

Thanks,

Can

    Hi Can,

we can not able to get stress on geometry.

In EDEM geometries are considered as a rigid bodies.

    I would recommend below approaches

    1) Coupling EDEM and Motion solve.

To get stress in motion solve, geometry should be modelled as flexible bodies.

    2) Extract forces from EDEM and map in Hypermesh to solve structural simulation.

You can export the peak force from EDEM and solve for structural results.

I would recommend second approach is easy.

    Thanks,

Thank you! I will try it out with Hypermesh. Hope I can make it.

You can use below link to explore force mapping in hypermesh and solve structural analysis.
