Why am I getting highly distorted mesh?

Dear All,

I am trying to get a good quality mesh on a mid surface which I extracted from a step file. But the mesh appears to be distorted and I cannot modify them any further. I have done multiple extend surfacing operations on the extracted mid surface to close the gaps. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Screenshot and the Hypermesh file of the modified midsurface is attached below.

Thanks!

I think this is just an issue of scale, in your original model the dimensions of the whole assembly are approx 2.5 x 1.2 x 1 'units' I am guessing meters?

while HM can work in meters, you will need to adjust mesh tolerances etc to work with the very small elements (orders of magnitude e-3 etc)

It is much easier to scale up the whole model by 1000 and work in mm... see attached

I did that below, and just automeshed everything at 5mm, and it looks not bad

If you are new to HM, I would also recommend you use the new HyperWorks interface over the HM classic interface!
