How to reduce memory required
Hello,
I'm now running a frequency response analysis (modal) for a model with about 6 million elements. The working station is equipped with 48 cores and about 512GB RAM.
AMSES is being used and since an analysis up to 2000Hz is required, the value of V2 for EIGRA cards (upper bound for frequency, at which the modes (eigenvalues) will be found) up to 3000Hz is desirable.
Because of the memory shortage, simulations with value of V2 only up to 2000Hz could be done. (with run option -len(46cores,500GB), -optskip). Are there any tricks, which can help reduce the amount of memory required for the simulation?
I'm looking forward to your reply! Thanks.

Hello SIM,
Apart from AMSES method that you are already using, there are a few other things you can try, please refer to this article for more details: https://community.altair.com/community/en/solutions-for-insufficient-disk-space-issue-of-frequency-response-analysis?id=kb_article&sys_id=4e08db4ddb530510e8863978f496190a
In summary, what you can try first: PEAKOUT card, reduce FREQi output and requesting results on sets of nodes/elements instead of the whole model if possible.
Thanks,
Vinicius

Hi Vinicius,
thank you for your reply!
I'm interested in the output on just few nodes and the data is being collected only on those nodes. When I look at the result, there are so many peaks so that the PEAKOUT card might not have benefit. As I reduced the number of frequencies of interest using FREQi, no difference of memory used was found (computation time was reduced). Are there some other tips which I can try?
