Contact between 2d and 3d elements

Hello,

I want to model a mount which is to be compressed by a metal plate. I have mount's model but I am going to create plate in hypermesh itself using 2d elements.

Where should I create 2d elements?  Exactly on the top face of the mount or by leaving an gap which is equal to the half of the thickness of the plate between plate and mount?

Also is there any difference between contact definition of 3d to 3d elements and 3d to 2d elements?

Regards,

Bharat

    Hi Bharat,

It will be better if you leave a small gap between the plate and mount.  There is no specific difference in contact definition. When you create for 3D elements, try creating using csurf (contact surface) which will be better for interface definition.
