Damping in analysis

Hello everyone,

 

What is the significance of material and structural damping in analysis? What values should be entered if you don't have the data regarding it and how?

    Hello Rahul,

     

    Thank you for the helpful reply.

     

    I need to know that how should someone determine structural damping? I have read somewhere that it should be around 5 %.

    But is there any thumb rule for that?

    Hi Bharat,

     

    Structural damping is not as easy to calculate as viscous damping since it involves contacts, materials, friction, gaps,  etc...
