Data MIning-for a beginner

Hey there people....i would really need help for the questions below :


1 ) What is data mining in general? ( in a simpler form )....technical and non-technical view
2 ) Is a search function in a talent search system considered as basic/simple data mining? eg: click on the criterias-->click on search-->relevant search results would be displayed
3 ) What are the systems using really simple data mining ( extremely simple data mining )
