What is the minimum specification for a Altair SLC workstation?
The minimum specifications required just to run Altair SLC on a Windows machine are very modest. Less than 1G of disk space is required for the installation, and the software has been run on operating systems Windows 7 and later, so any modern PC will be perfectly adequate for most operations.
We typically recommend a minimum of 4G per job, so for a single-user workstation 4G RAM would be the recommended minimum spec.
Currently a typical new PC has perhaps 16GB RAM, 8 logical CPUs and a 2GHz processor.
The main factor to consider is the size of the data which will be processed. Sufficient local or remote disk space is required to house the data, plus enough local disk for processing data in operations such as sorts or summaries. We recommend using the fastest storage available for the WORK location, which on a modern machine might be a local SSD.
