Hi ;

How can i set a topology optimization in which i want to force some part of (some of the components of desing) my design to have maximimum shear strain while the other connected region as design space.

Thanks in advance

    You then need to assign a certain region as design space and certain other regions as non design space,

    to define a Non-Design Space for optimization, you need to create a separate component and property. It is necessary to either separate the areas on a geometry level (i.e. before meshing) or on the element level (after meshing).

    After meshing, you still can move areas to the Non-Design component. Please use the 'organize' function within HyperMesh.

    The following movie shows all necessary steps on a simple part:

    Hi;

    Thank you very much for your answer but my intention was to ask to setup a topology optimization for one region of my design.I already organized my components and mesh region.

    I want to maximize Shear Strain of Design Space..but how any idea?

    Hi,

    Maybe you can use exclude elements option when creating response for strain? Try this.

    Hi Prakash ;

    Firstly thank you for your answer..But i want to increase  'shear strain' in my non-desing domain.such that

    I created my model design domain/component and non-desing Component.I want to increase or maximize the shear strain energies (objective)  of non-design elements targeting  the topology of design space.

    I hope i am clear..I want to find best topology of my design space that maximize/increase the shear strain of non-design elements.

    Or i want to know if there is any option maximize shear strain/shear strain energy/ESE of any component.

    Regards

    Hi,

    First of all, using strain as a response is not at all recommended for a topology optimization.

    You can request shear strain through Control cards>> Strain>> type Shear and this can be used as a response.

    But, stress and strain are not recommended for topology optimization.

    Hi

    Thank you very Much

    But how about minimizing Compliance ( strain energy ) ( in Other Words maximizing stiffness) maybe i used wrong terminology .. I want to maximize strain energy to have Much Flexible structure ..but how..

    I want to learn on solutıon of simple rectangular domain to get idea or methods to increase the flexibility of my design With best topology ( material distribution)

    Thanks

    Hi,

    You can use compliance as a objective response which can be defined for entire structure or property or material and you can try with volume fraction as an optimization constraint.

    Hi thanks;

    As far as i searched minimizing Compliance gives stiffer structure.. So should i minimize Compliance? To have Much more Flexible structure ( beam for example)

    Thanks

    Hi,

    Yes, maximizing compliance will result in a less stiffer structure.
