I have a component that I want to constraint in all degrees of freedom except a direction which is in (for instance z direction of new coordinate system I have defined)

Would you please give me guidance how I can constrain the model? ( I am working in Optistruct)

Thank you

    Hi,

Create SPC with only 5Dofs (Z released of the local coordinate) and assign this SPC(s) to the local coordinate system.

My question is how can I assign the component to the new coordinate system I have defined??

You need to set the displacement coordinate system of the nodes in question to the local system.  Nodal based loads and constraints are applied using the local system, if one is defined for the node.  To do this, select 'Mesh ==> Assign ==> Node Analysis System' from the HyperMesh menu.  A panel should appear at the bottom of the screen.  On the left side select 'Assign', in the middle select the nodes and the local system, and then click 'set displacement' on the right side.
