Hyperworks –NLOUT Definition with Nonlinear Incremental Output Parameters

Topic description: NLOUT card is defined to get incremental result output for Non Linear Implicit (Static & Transient) and Non Linear Explicit analysis. In versions lower than 2020.1 this can be created as Load collector with card image as NLOUT and in 2020.1 or higher version it can be created as Load step inputs, config type as Output parameters.

This card can be created from Model browser > rmb > Load Step Inputs (Figure 1).

In lower versions for Nonlinear Incremental Output field only NINT option is available but from v2020.1 onward FREQ & TIME option is added. Format and definitions of NLOUT card is defined below.

Below cases shows how output changes with change of Nonlinear Incremental Output parameter.

Case1: Nonlinear Incremental Output = NINT

With this option Optistruct will output results whatever value is specified for NINT. There is no control over Load factor as it is calculated by Solver. Default value is 10.

Figure 2: NLOUT with NINT as Incremental output

In the above Run though 56 increments are carried out by solver only 15 is reported as NINT was set with value 15.

Case 2: Nonlinear Incremental Output = FREQ

Figure 3: NLOUT with FREQ as Incremental output

In the above Run though 56 increments are carried out by solver only 7 are the output in result which includes 1st and last increment along with 5 more increments as FREQ was set with value 5. With this user has a control over number of output.

Case 3: Nonlinear Incremental Output = TIME

In the above Run, OUTPUT is reported only for the TIME Points defined by user.

Conclusion: Depending on requirement OUPUT can be requested by choosing Nonlinear Incremental Output options in NLOUT card.
